We would like to update our patients on what is happening at the Practice and how things will be altering. We are currently seeing demand at an all-time high and with a significant increase in levels of calls and patient enquiries; this is placing a huge strain on the system.
Primary Care has never been under more pressure and a high percentage of surgeries are identified as being on Alert State Red (as set out by the Devon Local Medical Committee GP Alert state recommendations). This means that patient flow is compromised due to the pressure on telephony and the availability of appointments is close to being overwhelmed. This has not been helped by the significant amount of staff shortages created by isolation regulations.
The influx of seasonal visitors plus the ongoing closure of the Tyrrell Minor Injury Unit is adding further pressure into the system.
We will continue to support our patients to the best of our ability, however to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the team we will be making the following changes.
Please do not attend the surgery without an appointment, we will continue to operate a full triage system which means you will need to be assessed by a clinician to decide the best course of action, this may be a phone call or a face to face appointment.
Our Same Day Service will be operating as an Urgent Care Service from now on; this means any requests for ‘on the day appointments’ will be triaged as such. If your request is assessed as non-urgent or routine you will be offered the next available appointment with your registered GP
Our reception team have been briefed and will follow the specific triage pathway as agreed by the GP’s. They will not be able to offer an urgent appointment for anyone who does not meet the criteria. This has been directed by the GP Partners.
If you are a temporary resident (holiday maker or second home owner) visiting the areayou will be advised to contact your own GP who knows your health needs best in the first instance unless you are assessed as urgent.
The reception team will be requesting information regarding your needs when you call the surgery in order to get you to the right service. Please understand this is necessary to get you the correct appointment.
Our reception team have been instructed by the GP’s to operate in this way in order to ensure the best and most appropriate care for our patients and for the safety of our team. Please be patient and kind to them.
Many thanks for your ongoing support,
Combe Coastal Team
